Shrimp Po’ Boy - Bad Mother Shuckers

Last week was the hottest weekend of 2024, and it looks like this week might be just as hot. I might be in the minority, but I absolutely love hot summer weather. Summer weather reminds me of all the trips I used to take to the beach as a kid and all the seafood we used to cook. Now that it’s officially summer, I figured it was time to revisit one of my favorite seafood trucks, Bad Mother Shuckers.

Bad Mother Shuckers is a roaming food truck in the Philadelphia area with a menu that focuses on southern seafood. Last weekend, the truck was at Forest and Main Brewery Bar in Ambler, PA, which is a place I’ve been meaning to check out for quite some time. Their menu is full of seafood classics, featuring both sandwiches and platters with shrimp, oysters, and tuna. I decided to order the Shrimp Po’ Boy, an old favorite of mine. The worker told me it would take about five minutes, but I don’t even think I had to wait that long.

The Shrimp Po’ Boy is a massive sandwich consisting of fried shrimp served on a long roll with pickles, coleslaw, remoulade sauce, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich also came with a side of hot sauce and a bag of potato chips. The shrimp is tossed in cornmeal before frying, and these pieces were massive. I could tell the shrimp was fresh and cooked just right. I know I’ve said this before, but there are some sandwiches that coleslaw belongs on, and this one is no exception. The remoulade sauce was creamy, with a little bit of a kick to it. Pair it with the hot sauce, and you’ve got an incredible flavor. The only challenge I had was keeping the sandwich together considering how big it was, but I’m not complaining because it was certainly worth it.

If you like fresh southern seafood, Bad Mother Shuckers is a must-try. Po’ boys are easily one of my favorite sandwiches, and if you’ve never had one before but think you might be interested, I highly recommend trying one from this truck. Bad Mother Shuckers is another roaming food truck you’ll often find at local breweries throughout the year. Be sure to check them out on Instagram to see where you can find them next.
