There’s nothing like fresh seafood, especially when it’s prepared just right. I may not know much about cooking seafood myself, but I definitely know what good seafood tastes like. While I’ve only tried a handful of seafood food trucks in my life, I was excited to discover a new one I hadn’t experienced yet: Southern Style Seafood.
I first heard about Southern Style Seafood last week. While on the hunt for some new food trucks to explore, I found this one parked at Levante Brewing in West Chester around dinnertime. As I looked over the menu, I was instantly drawn to their fresh seafood and comfort food options—some even blending the best of both worlds. One item, in particular, grabbed my attention: the Real Lump Meat Crab Fries. Now, I’ve had my fair share of crab fries over the years, and it’s a dish I always enjoy. But I’ve never tried crab fries topped with actual crab meat before. Needless to say, I had to try it. To top it off, the service was incredibly fast—I think I only waited about five minutes before my food was ready.
The Real Lump Meat Crab Fries came out as a generous portion of Old Bay-seasoned fries, topped with lump crab meat sauce and garlic aioli. Let’s start with the fries. They were the perfect balance between crispy and soft—crispy on the outside for that satisfying crunch, and tender on the inside. Each fry was seasoned with Old Bay, giving them that signature southern flavor. But the real star of the show was the lump crab meat sauce. It was creamy and tasted like freshly caught and cooked crab. The additional sprinklings of Old Bay and garlic aioli throughout the sauce gave it a very distinct flavor. The lumps of crab meat throughout the sauce were impressive in size but broke apart easily with each bite. The sauce even seeped through the fries, making sure every fry had a bit of that rich, authentic crab taste. These fries were not only delicious but also quite filling—definitely a great dish to share with a friend or two.
Southern Style Seafood is the perfect food truck for anyone who loves fresh seafood. While I opted for a familiar favorite this time, their menu is packed with plenty of interesting seafood dishes I’m excited to try in the future.
