As a food truck enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for new and unique food. While the last few weeks have had some of the hottest weather I can recall in a long time, that certainly didn’t stop the number of food trucks out and about for service. Last weekend, I came across a food truck I was unfamiliar with called Clean Plate Club, and after some preliminary research, I knew this truck would fit the bill for new and unique.
Clean Plate Club is a food truck that offers a “chef-driven menu.” This means that the food being served depends on the time of year and where the truck is stationed. The owners are all about buying and serving local, which is a motto I can get behind. The truck was at Wissahickon Brewery over the weekend, and I was excited to see what type of food they had in store for me. The first thing that caught my attention was the Honey Mustard Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I used to shy away from honey mustard when I was a kid, but when I finally gave it a try, it became my go-to dipping sauce for crispy chicken. I was excited to see how it would pair with this truck’s chicken. The workers were both friendly and efficient, serving the food in about five minutes.
This sandwich contains crispy chicken, honey mustard, mixed greens, and pickled onions served on a challah roll. I’ve had my share of crispy chicken over the years, but this chicken was unlike anything I’ve had before. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. What really makes this chicken unique is that the honey mustard is part of the crispy exterior. It almost reminded me of how chicken wings are prepared, giving you the full flavor of the sauce in every bite. Pickled onions are something I only just recently started eating, and these paired very well with the chicken, as did the greens. The roll was both soft and fresh, making this an all-around great sandwich. I can assure you my plate was clean by the time I finished this sandwich.
If you’re looking for something new and unique, I highly recommend you check out Clean Plate Club. This truck has been around for a few years and caters to breweries as well as both public and private events. Their rotating menu, based on season and location, helps keep every visit unique and exciting.
