Coconut Shrimp - Farmstead Foods

Since starting this blog in April, I’ve built up quite a backlog of food trucks that I’ve wanted to check out and feature. This list includes both familiar trucks I’ve visited before and new ones that have recently caught my attention. Over the weekend, I finally had the chance to try one of these new trucks: Farmstead Foods. This truck has been on my radar for quite some time, and I was excited to check them out.

Farmstead Foods is a food truck best known for its catering services for both large and small events. However, you’ll also find them at some local breweries in the Philly area. Last weekend, they were at Ten7 Brewing Company in North Wales, so I decided to head over and see what they had to offer. This truck features a different menu depending on its location, and what immediately caught my eye was the Coconut Shrimp. I love shrimp, but I couldn’t remember the last time I had coconut shrimp, so I knew I had to order it. As soon as the worker started cooking, I could immediately smell the flavors and I knew I was in for a treat. After a short ten-minute wait, my food was ready, and it was time to dig in.

The Coconut Shrimp is fried with coconut flakes and breadcrumbs and is served with a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping. It comes atop a generous bed of rice and veggies. From the first bite, I was struck by the savory taste of the shrimp and the sweet texture of the coconut. The blend of these flavors reminded me of some of the seafood I ate on my last trip to the Caribbean. The shrimp was also super crispy, adding a satisfying crunch with each bite. The sweet chili sauce was the perfect complement, adding an extra layer of sweetness that made the shrimp even more enjoyable.

The veggie mix included broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, red peppers, squash, and zucchini. They were all sautéed together with similar sauces, providing a unique flavor while allowing each veggie to retain its original taste and texture. I’ve never been a fan of mushrooms and typically leave them on the plate, but I decided to give these a try. I’m glad I did because I truly enjoyed them, perhaps even enough to change my opinion on mushrooms.

If you’re looking for something fresh and delicious, I highly recommend checking out Farmstead Foods. While they are probably best known for their catering services, you’ll also find them at plenty of local breweries in the Philly area. Be sure to follow them on Instagram for updates on their latest locations.
