Chicken Sando w/ Fries - Nanu’s Hot Chicken

I’ve been on the lookout for some good, crispy chicken. Something unique, but at the same time, something classic. I was out in University City last week checking out what food trucks were out and about, and I came across something new that caught my attention. It was a truck called Nanu’s Hot Chicken, specializing in Nashville hot chicken.

Nanu’s has plenty of chicken and fries combos to choose from, and everything they serve is halal. I decided to order the Chicken Sando w/ Fries. They give you six different options for how hot you want your chicken, from “Mild” to “Reaper”. I decided to play it a little safe and went with “Hot”, which is their fourth hottest option. I love anything spicy, but was a little intimidated by their “Reaper” option, especially if its sauce really does contain the Carolina Reaper pepper, which I’ve tried on a few occasions.

The sandwich comes with crispy chicken, topped with pickles, coleslaw, and their famous Nanu’s sauce. This chicken was crispy, juicy, and certainly spicy. You can tell, these workers know how to cook their chicken. I’ve only started ordering coleslaw on sandwiches recently, and this was a great topping, especially with the added pickles. The Nanu’s sauce was something new, but its sweet flavor was the perfect addition to the spicy chicken. This was a great combination of sweet and spicy, giving you the best of both worlds. While the sandwich is the main feature here, their fries are out of this world. Battered and crispy, and with a side of Nanu’s sauce for dipping, you’ll find yourself thinking this is how fries should always be eaten.

Nanu’s Hot Chicken is a food truck I recommend to anyone who likes crispy, spicy chicken. They have a few different trucks throughout Philly, so be sure to check them out on Instagram to find the one closest to you. You can also read about the inspiring story behind their chicken. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to this truck.
